Public Involvement

Successful planning and design requires comprehensive and effective public input. Realizing that transportation decisions cannot be made in a vacuum, GCA, Inc., provides public education and participation services to its clients in an effort to increase community understanding and build consensus. GCA’s award-winning public involvement program has enabled communities across the Southeast to implement plans and develop public policy that has both strengthened and enhanced quality of life. (A charrette is a meeting to resolve a problem or issue. Within a specified time limit, participants work together intensely to reach a resolution. The sponsoring agency usually sets the goals and time limit and announces them ahead of time. A leader’s responsibility is to bring out all points of view from concerned local residents as well as agency representatives and experts.)
